Triga Back Story: Football

Way back in the mists of time, long ago in a lost world in a galaxy far far away….before Lad porn was invented….well not quite that long ago but certainly in a world few people would recognise today, the only lad on lad porn you could get your hands on back then, if you fancied a crafty wank, was either the bland stuff they churned out in the USA – all big bouffant hair, shaved chests and leather trousers or the Brit porn mags where admittedly the lads featured were a bit rougher but where the merest hint of a hard-on could get you arrested.

It was during this arid era that Triga was conceived and born. What was the sexiest, the hottest, the most iconic image of a British bloke everyone and his mate fantasised about? Back then Skinheads and football scallies were the essence of the working class lad. The lad next door. And in the porn world back then, such as it was it hardly existed at all. What’s more when we did try to put out the first film on the market the distributors listened and just said “no, why would anyone want to see a film full of ordinary blokes, like the lads you see fixing the tarmac or putting your plumbing in?” They just didn’t get it. Because like most original ideas, the people in charge don’t wanna know they just want more of the same, so they can safely keep their quotas filled. I guess at the end of the day it’s just human nature- stick to what you know.

So in the end we just had to do it ourselves. DIY. We borrowed a couple of hundred quid, grabbed a little mini DV camera, rented the local footie club for the afternoon and filmed our mates having a Fuck about in real time and then then having a good shag session in the clubhouse showers afterwards. Simple. All done and dusted. With no messing around the film was simply called “Football” and the cover shot was a close up of a bloke in footie gear with another lad on his knees right in front of him in the mud, staring at his packet.

There was only one big problem-as we mentioned before -no company wanted to release it. It just didn’t conform to what they wanted.We did however, have a mate who worked in one of the biggest music high street stores in the country and they just happened to have a section of their shops that sold videos and films. In fact a whole bloody great floor of movies and they sold everything from Hollywood blockbusters down to your Fitness videos, obscure foreign language films AND crucially they even had a small section titled: Adult Movies. So, our mate, let’s just call him “Mr. X.” -well he agreed to take a few copies and quietly put them in the racks. None of us knew what to expect. Within a couple of days they were sold out. After that they restocked the shelves and they sold out again.

And again and again. By the third restock we knew we were on to something. People wanted to see our stuff. After all, numbers don’t lie – we didn’t fit the mould but the video distributors and the stores could see the demand was there and they finally let us in….
